The first things you will find out when you explore the Mummy Tombs website is that mummies are not just from Egypt, and they were not all made on purpose. Human mummies—and animal ones, too—have been found on every continent. Cultures around the world used many different methods to preserve the bodies of their dead. And many mummies were formed “accidentally” when ice or extremely dry or acidic conditions prevented decomposition. For information on the mummies of the ancient overland trade route between China and Europe mentioned in The World Today, click on “World Mummies” and then “Xinjiang or Ürümchi .”
